About recipes in Cookaborough
Recipes are the building blocks of your menu. Creating a well-structured recipe ensures accurate food labelling, compliance with regulatory standards, and unlocks key features like nutritional panels, dietary tags, and scalable recipe cards.
Each recipe includes detailed fields that not only support kitchen production but also determine how the item appears to customers and what information is printed on their labels.
Taking the time to complete each component properly means your recipes will:
- Display accurately on your customer-facing menu
- Automatically reflect allergens and nutrition
- Generate compliant food labels
- Generate scalable recipe cards for kitchen use
- Be eligible for SaH/NDIS invoicing (if applicable)
- Apply GST where required for compliant invoicing
Key components of a recipe
Recipe name
The name of the dish that will appear on your menu and labels.
Recipe description
A brief description of the meal for customers. This appears on your menu and helps entice orders.
Recipe images
Upload photos of the dish. Good food imagery can increase conversions.
ℹ️ See our guide on Why food imagery matters.
Menu section
Assign the recipe to the correct section of your menu (e.g. Mains, Desserts, Snacks). This helps organise how items are grouped and displayed on your menu.
Ingredients
List the ingredients that make up the meal, including any sub-recipes (e.g. a sauce or side).
⚠️ Important: All ingredients must be listed accurately. Ensure quantities and units are correct — this is essential for allergen detection, nutritional panels, and compliance.
Allergen information
Allergens are automatically identified based on your ingredients. You can also manually add allergen tags if needed.
Dietary tags
Apply any relevant dietary tags (e.g. Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free). These help customers filter items based on their needs.
Recipe instructions
Optional but recommended. Add internal prep instructions to generate scalable recipe cards for kitchen production.
Customer instructions
Include any notes for your customer that should appear on their label (e.g. heating or storage instructions).
Unit type
Choose the unit that best reflects how this recipe is measured or sold (e.g. per item, per tray, per litre). You can add custom unit types if needed.
Yield
Enter the yield to generate an accurate Nutrition Information Panel (NIP). Depending on the dish, you can enter this in one of the following ways:
- Serves: Number of serves + weight per serve, or
- Weight: Cooked weight + weight per serve, or
- Units: Number of units produced (e.g. pies, balls, tarts, pieces) + weight per unit
Nutritional information panel
Automatically generated when ingredients, quantities, metrics, and yield are entered accurately. The panel includes details such as energy, protein, fat, carbohydrates, sodium, and more. You can choose to display this for customers by checking the tickbox.
Sizes and pricing
Set the sizes and prices offered to customers. You can add up to three sizes per item (e.g. Single Serve, Couple, Family Size).
GST required
Select whether GST applies to this item to ensure correct invoicing.
ℹ️ See our guide on What you need to know about GST and food.
Exclude from SaH/NDIS funding
Some menu items are not eligible for government funding via the NDIS or Support at Home programs. Check this box if the recipe item should not be included in SaH/NDIS funding.
