Delivery Driver Police Checks. Guidance for Cookaborough Cooks
This guide outlines Cookaborough’s position on delivery driver police checks and clarifies when external providers may still require them.

Overview

Cookaborough’s compliance framework does not require Food Businesses to provide police checks for delivery drivers.

This is because Cookaborough considers the provision of meals a meal supply service not a care delivery service, and delivery is typically contactless (“drop-and-go”) with no in-home interaction.

This position is based on our interpretation of the aged-care-worker screening guidance provided by the Australian Government. However, whilst it is not a requirement to use Cookaborough, some Care Providers (Support at Home) and Plan Managers (NDIS) may request police checks as a condition of service.

Why Police Checks Are Not a Standard Requirement

Under the Cookaborough model:

  • Food businesses operating on the platform do not provide care services
  • Delivery drivers do not enter the home
  • Delivery drivers do not interact with the customer in a care capacity
  • Delivery is often handled by third-party logistics providers

As a result, delivery drivers are not classified as aged care workers, and police checks are not a standard compliance requirement.

When Police Checks May Still Be Required

It is important to note that some organisations may require police checks as part of their own policies, including:

  • Care Providers (Support at Home)
  • Plan Managers (NDIS)

These requirements are:

  • Set at the discretion of the organisation
  • Part of their internal risk management or safeguarding approach.

Third-Party Delivery Providers

If you use a third-party delivery service, it is likely they already require police checks for their drivers.

We recommend requesting written confirmation of the requirements, as this may be needed when working with some Care Providers (SaH) and Plan Managers (NDIS).

If You Manage Your Own Deliveries

If you are manage your own deliveries and are asked to provide police checks:

  • The process is simple and can be completed online
  • Most checks are completed within 1–3 business days
  • Approximately $40 to $60 AUD per check

You can apply through accredited providers, including:

Key Takeaways

  • Police checks are not required under Cookaborough’s compliance model
  • Some Care Providers or Plan Managers will require them
  • Third-party delivery companies usually manage this themselves
  • If needed, police checks are quick, low-cost, and easy to obtain online

Ongoing Monitoring

Cookaborough will continue to monitor guidance, industry expectations, and the requirements of Care Providers and Plan Managers.

If requirements shift over time, we will review whether police checks should become a standard requirement for Food Businesses on the platform and will communicate any changes clearly.
